Online Psychologist: Understanding and Enhancing Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is the assessment we make of ourselves. This way of valuing depends the confidence with which we act and, therefore, our ability to function in life. You can change because the assessment we make of this, is not permanent and therefore should know better if we take care of low or if it is good.

A person with good self-esteem feel excited by the goals pursued and the challenges it faces. Have faith in your ability and therefore rely on to succeed in what is proposed or, in case of failure, perceived this as an opportunity to learn something new and try again. In short: it accepts and seeks to improve.

A good self-esteem is realistic: the person accepts himself as he is and at the same time believe that with effort and perseverance can improve and evolve.

Poor self-esteem causes, some not accept themselves (looking to improve to please themselves and fall into the guilt, anxiety and perfectionism) other persons are accepted but not hope to improve (falling into apathy, resignation or evil spirits) and others, nor accept or believe they can improve, fall into self-destructive attitudes.

To put it another way: a person who does not accept yourself and just try to improve yourself, stifle their self-esteem, to avoid this we oxygenate our self-esteem, accepting as we are now. A person who accepts herself but do not try to improve not feed your self-esteem, self-esteem we must nurture our challenges and goals that excite us.

Therefore a good self-esteem means accepting as we are and, in turn, see the possibility of improving what we propose. Two attitudes that seem opposite but complementary as the yin-yang or pedaling a bicycle.

If we improve our self we have to accept those of us who do not like. But without falling into resignation, that is, knowing that anything we can improve ourselves, not because he is evil but because we believe will enable us to better adapt to our environment. If we try to change what we do not like without accepting it before, fall prey to stress before or after.

A good way to accept something is to understand it. Understanding that something is so for a reason. Above that nothing is wrong in essence, although we prefer to modify it to better adapt to our environment or because we believe will make us happier.

A good way to improve is to establish objectives that we excite and milestones that we achieve. For example, a person who has the goal of learning English can consider the goal: learn 10 words, then learn to make simple sentences, then learn 20 words, make sentences with them, make long sentences, etc …

The feeling that we are moving towards whatever our goal, failure is accepted although the food and oxygen self-esteem.

Finally, t HERAPY online or online counseling  can help people relate to as positive and constructive. Connect with people you really value your help in a positive way to help you motivate yourself and accept yourself as you are not giving up pursuing your goals, it is a source of growth and optimism.

Hypnosis is a scientifically proven and effective technique that can help you change your behavior, improve your mental health and even break bad habits.

You can use hypnosis to lose weight, quit smoking, set goals and even increase the confidence in yourself.

Hypnosis is done in order to get a very relaxed state where your subconscious mind becomes very receptive to suggestions. After reaching this state, you can use these suggestions to send new beliefs into your mind.

Myths about hypnosis

The media have abused their rights through the mutation of the image that people have about hypnosis. Today, when you say the word hypnosis against someone, the first thought is that you will sleep and then tell him to act like a rabbit or a chicken.

On the contrary, hypnosis is a scientific method that has been approved as a method of therapy for a long time. Hypnosis will not leave you completely unconscious, but rather will remain conscious while you are hypnotized, the only difference is that your conscious mind will be a little sluggish and your subconscious mind will have a little more control.

You can not force anyone to do what you do not want to do or say what it means not using hypnosis. Just think of hypnosis as a state of deep relaxation in which you are receptive to suggestions, but still aware of your surroundings.

How is hypnosis?

The state of hypnosis is exactly the same state that you feel when you’re in bed just before sleep. It is the state of being half awake.

This state is called trance, the trance the conscious mind becomes a bit inactive. The subconscious has more control and, therefore, makes you receptive to suggestions, because the conscious mind and does not filter the information.

Under normal circumstances you will not believe everything you hear because your conscious mind filters what you do not like. If I told you that you are a confident person might not believe me, because you may have opposing beliefs, but in the state of trance your conscious mind is not there to filter this information by going directly to your subconscious and stay there.

If you see a Pepsi commercial that tells you to buy Pepsi while you’re fully awake, you can not have a big impact on you. However, if you see this announcement while in a hypnotic state, you could go buy a Pepsi immediately because the suggestions and statements are not filtered by the conscious mind. That’s why some companies use subliminal messages to program the minds of the audience to buy their products as they watch their commercials, which results in higher sales volume.

After knowing this, you may have already guessed that if you pass the conscious mind can convince someone to believe you high because you will view your subconscious mind without filters.

What I can do with hypnosis?

Hypnosis is very useful because it can help program the mind, inserting new or strengthen belief in her old beliefs. Since the subconscious controls the behavior of one, you can install completely new behavior patterns.

Imagine the things you can do when you have the ability to change old beliefs and unwanted thoughts. How will your life be if you were able to eliminate negative beliefs about yourself, your self-image, your feelings of  inferiority  or not being able to succeed.

Self-Hypnosis

What is wonderful about hypnosis is that you can do on your own. Self-hypnosis can make a recording using only suggestions to your mind after achieving the hypnotic state. Therefore, you do not need someone to help you. This process is called self-hypnosis.

Programming the subconscious mind is not a difficult task. Just make the conscious mind is inactive using hypnosis or any other method, after that, you can send your suggestions directly to the subconscious mind and program it.

In fact, no other method of programming that can be used even if the conscious mind is fully awake, which is to use a reliable source.

Programming the subconscious mind through a reliable source

Do you know someone you trust too much? Is there anyone who you think knows more than you?

That person need not know more than you in all fields of life, and a field is more than enough to make you consider it a reliable source.

What you may not have in mind is that most of the things he says that person is going directly to your subconscious without any filtration. It is as if hypnotized, his words and ideas can program your subconscious mind and affect your life greatly.

Religion and programming of the subconscious

Of course, if you are a believer, there is no one to trust only in God. Based on this fact, when you read the holy book of your religion, the information will go directly to your subconscious mind is programmed beliefs and becomes firm.

But what if you do not feel that these ideas came to your subconscious, despite its quite understand? Unfortunately, that probably means you do not trust the source 100%.

Once the conscious mind relies on a source, make hardly any filtering to the information they receive from it. On the other hand, if you do not trust the source, begin to question the information and filter it.

If that’s the case, then make sure you work on strengthening your faith. Read as much as possible. If you have any doubts about your religion, investigate further to find answers.

Falling in love and programming of the subconscious

People develop an emotional attachment to those who see often, so usually fall for people living near them. This is also the same reason why the girl next door you find attractive.

In my book,  How to make someone fall in love with you  -soon in Spanish  (How to love someone), I explain how repetition can help schedule someone to love. For example, if three of your friends are on three different days home from the girl you like and tell him you’re a great person, she will begin to think you’re an attractive person, although he has not thought of before.

Final words on the programming of the subconscious mind

Once you program your subconscious, you can insert any belief you want to revoke any belief you do not want, change your unwanted behavior and even  break bad habits.

Just remember that the first thing you have to do is get the conscious mind of your way so you can directly program the subconscious mind.

Gestalt Therapy

Gestalt therapy, developed initially by Perls and Goodman Hefferline also focuses on the interaction between the individual and the environment, ever changing, requiring creative adjustments by the subject. Where the person and the environment interact contact occurs. Gestalt therapy focuses on studying this contact to be more satisfying and authentic.

People do grow and assimilate new experiences, creative integrations of the old with the new material, producing a change in identity. A healthy person would not resist these changes, while the neurotic (which we should all, at least in this society) respond with past patterns of maladaptive behavior to what is happening in the present moment. It is, therefore, to live the present moment without the constraints of the past.

To achieve this Gestalt therapy works with the awareness of both self car shipping and the environment and interactions between them. More than the what or why, the therapist is interested in the how and why. The therapist works from the absence of trial, facilitating the integration of different parts of the self (the self), through both the support and the confrontation, and allowing the same patient’s body, which naturally tends to the health, self-regulation.

The aim of this paper is to collect the basic concepts and techniques derived from Gestalt psychotherapy and applied to the context of therapy over the Internet, assessing the strengths and weaknesses and suggesting a new therapeutic application.

Techniques and their application in Therapy Online

The holistic approach of Gestalt therapy integrates techniques that work with different levels of the person: body, emotions, expression, awareness, etc.. These techniques can be applied both in the context of individual therapy and group therapy.

I will be mentioning some techniques and their application in online therapy.

The empty chair

Arguably, this technique is the most distinctive and characteristic of Gestalt Therapy. Is to facilitate a dialogue between two opposing sides of the person or between the person and another person with whom a conflict exists. Place two chairs, each representing one of the parties in conflict. The person is placed in one of them. If, for example, the conflict is with a partner, one of the chairs will be the person and the other partner. He sits in that it represents and expresses everything you say to your partner comes. Then the person moves to the chair that represents your partner and put in place. He begins to speak from the place of your partner, expressing his reaction to what they just heard. This starts a dialogue that is often very motivating for the person, leading to an alternative perception of the situation.

Through the internet you can perform the same steps described in the empty chair chairs without physically present. Thus, we can ask the person to speak in second person as if your partner forward and then reversing the role. In my experience, the results are very similar. If we can help, we can suggest that he put two chairs or two dolls in her room and represent you.

Expression Techniques

Many techniques of Gestalt therapy lead the person to express emotions often retained for long periods of time. Sometimes we do not express anger or sadness or happiness freeze. Although we do not express the emotions in our field remain vital and are expressed in specific facial expressions, body movements or muscle contractions. The therapist pays special attention to these clues to lead the individual to free expression. A classic example is anger out by hitting the pads of the room.

Even without the physical presence of the therapist some possibilities are limited (eg can not get up and make a challenge of strength for the person to take out your aggression) but other options remain. Through videoconferencing can still see the patient’s body and observe their movements. Can be encouraged to exaggerate a movement that continually makes with his hands or suggest a more authentic expression of his emotion, expressing the therapist before. Through chat is more complicated, but not impossible. The words also suggest emotions that can return the patient to become aware. If the patient is connected with emotion and expression through the written word can be a greater awareness, as they generally require more thought than spoken, more automatic.

Suppression techniques

Allow silences and empty spaces is also possible therapy both onsite and online.

Attention to language

In Gestalt therapy emphasizes speaking in first person (eg “I need” rather than “necessary”) to assume responsibility for our lives. You also avoid generalities like “all” or “nothing” and “good” or “wrong.” This attention to language is equally valid and possible therapy in a classroom and through the network.

Body techniques

Apparently, the biggest problem in applying Gestalt therapy in the context of the Internet, is the lack of bodily presence. But that does not prevent them doing different practices, which will be guided through the words. For example, you can work with breathing and visualization. We ask the person to close his eyes and induce a relaxed state so you can become more aware of the state of your body, emotions and thoughts. Through chat we can not ask you to close your eyes, but equally we suggest you make a certain breathing or movement.

Without going into greater detail with gestalt techniques, it could go on much, so far we have seen that there is a major limitation in its application on the Internet. The largest of these is the absence of touch, a very important sense is our development as people. However, there are few therapists who have as a rule the “no touch”. In this case, this limitation would be different from many therapies face.

Now, besides a few limitations, can we find new techniques applicable to the specific context of the Internet? In this article I will propose a specific technique for the exploration of polarities, a key concept in Gestalt theory and practice.

A new possibility: Exploring polarities

According to Gestalt phenomena dialectically act. All have a system of opposites, like yin and yang, are not incompatible. When we see each other as opposites not integrate, an internal conflict within the person. Often we are at the end of one polarity and reject the other. For example, we believe that being active is good while being passive is bad. In that case we will be rigid and before all the situations we behave looking for the activity, let us do nothing. Through Gestalt therapy we can explore the polarity end of the value without a trial to integrate it with us and choose depending on the situation. So we become more free.

Through the exploration of polarities internet can give much play. We can use portals that allow us to create us virtual profiles. We can create a profile with those characteristics that we rejected in others, and therefore ourselves. If we do not like people who are very aware of the image, how is the experience of being aware of the image? Reject what part of this? We can also express our needs and create a character all of our features characterized by ideals. Is this really what I want to be or a trial that comes from abroad? Everything that could represent in person, through dramatization, we can develop with practice. The advantage here is that we can make continuity easier and keep the material present to think about it.

This activity is only one therapeutic option among many that can be developed in networked environments. Being a new field, we are divers of this ocean and have the ability to create new languages and realities. Have you tried?

One of the things I value most in life (in the game, sports, politics, business, competitive relationships of any kind) is fair game .

Respect for the rules of engagement with the enemy. Moreover, the admiration towards it. Instead, one of the most pitiful is the trap, the trick, treachery, foul play. The contempt and hatred towards the rival. That incontinence egocentric, unable to take any code of conduct, clears tricks to win at any cost.

Winning and losing. Few things, indeed, most perverted in our society that such facts. All rival should be to us a challenge, the mirror in which to measure our own strengths and limitations. So, winning means simply that our art has been provisionally better than our opponent. Losing means it has been temporarily lower and we can do better. And so on. Should we not, therefore, enjoy and thank our opponents the opportunity to measure ourselves and compare ourselves, to know ourselves better? (1) But no. Neurotic society works differently.

For starters, our opponents do not consider respectable people, much less admirable, but rather enemies odious (and often envied) that we must destroy as soon as possible. We must eliminate any mirror of our miseries! To do this, nothing better than to despise, hate, insult, discredit, restless fool, either openly or secretly. For while the neurotic hate and feel superior, it seems his huge helplessness, inner emptiness go away. It seems that “winning” something that “steals” late love, a self who failed in due time. But stealing means redeem his love for power . (2) And the power is cheaper and affordable that there is precisely to attack, deceive, cheat, play dirty … So the neurotic, in short, lack of love, humor, flexibility, never enjoy the social competition. For him, winning and losing is to destroy it feels destroyed. Their existence is a harrowing life-or-death war.
Thus we see continuously, p. for example., mass in sports, politics, economics, social life … In all areas, the basic issue is not playing fairly, or risk or responsibility, but as win . No matter the media, but only the results. So do not talk about something else, or skimp possible doping, bribery, fraud, betrayal, violence … Such are the fans, members, voters, shareholders, media, audio-visual shows, presidents of governments, the powers in the shade … Everyone wants to win ! And they will do any thing, act or failure to achieve them. (3)

1. This is the sporting spirit, humanist, mature-even loving-all competition. And not just in this case. Eg, long ago I read that in India (do not know if it’s true), when someone gives alms to a beggar, humbly gives thanks also for giving the chance to exercise their charity. How different from the hidden arrogance of many of our gifts! 2. “When you can not love what you’re trying is to send” (Alejandro Jodorowsky) . That is, our desire to dominate (narcissism, omnipotence) is directly proportional to our needs love.  3. We also found similar Psychodynamics in compulsive gambling, addiction to gambling and lotteries, the tendency to fraud and rogue, and so on.

The issue of stress every time we worry more. While the moderate level of stress can be positive and help us to act, the excessive level can be a threatening factor to our health. For this reason it is important to recognize and manage high stress levels.

Be aware and learn to control stress is a skill easily learned and can be reached by small steps.

Here are some examples of changes that we can practice to better manage stress:

Understand your stress. Each person has a different way to confront these difficult situations, you know how you react, how you behave?, what thoughts you have when you see the stress?
Identify the source of stress. What kind of situations cause you more stress: work, family, friends, financial decisions?
Learn your own stress signals. People often feel stress in different ways. For example you may be annoyed, irritated, it can cost you make decisions, or you may notice muscle tension or lack of energy. Evaluate your own stress signals.
Recognize how you handle stress. Determine if you are using some unhealthy behaviors (eg smoking or drinking). Do you always react well sometimes?, Do you take unhealthy choices as a result of being overwhelmed?
Find healthy ways to manage stress. Consider healthy activities such as meditation, exercise, or talk about your problems with family or friends. Keep in mind that unhealthy behaviors, over time, can have negative consequences will become increasingly difficult to change. Do not overdo it: Focus on changing only one behavior at a time.
Take care of yourself. Eat well, sleep enough, drink plenty of water and get hooked to a regular physical activity. Make sure you have a healthy mind and body through activities such as yoga, walking, going to the gym, playing sports. Take regular vacations. No matter how difficult things get, always take time for yourself: read a while or listen to your favorite music.
Get support. Accepting help from friends or family can improve your ability to handle stress. If you keep feeling overwhelmed by stress consider seeing a psychologist or a coach .
